Dish Installations PVR & Extra View |
Before buying a dish the client must be aware of the different models available, their characteristics, reception ability and how this will affect your viewing pleasure. If you decide on the cheapest installation you can expect a LNB (Electronic unit in front of dish) that is not water-resistant and will have to be replaced within 18 months, as well as picture breakage especially in bad weather. At this stage we strongly recommend the vecom Lnb. Cheaper dish versions tend to flex around in the wind and are wobbly.
The way a dish retrieves signals is a Science, governed by the laws of Physics. Disobeying these laws by using cheaper replicas can lead to a lot of frustration. The way a dish is shaped is vital for precise reflection of waves onto the LNB. We say that the signal to noise ratio or bit error rate is good. Readings done on various dishes have shown that the Visiosat (from Europe) has excellent reflection characteristics and produces exceptional signal quality. It is a military spec dish and is apparently used on military vehicles in France.
A well designed dish with precise installation is essential for stable signal in bad weather. There are a few "clever guys" that say the dish receives a digital signal and feels that precision alignment is not necessary. This is a half truth used to justify speedy work. We do many re-installations and solve a lot of problems by installing quality equipment or/and through precision alignment.
The modern dish must also be able to handle enough bandwidth. This is crucial for HD transmitions. Multichoice recommends a 90cm dish on their website. According to Phil Owen Sales manager Cape Town from Space TV, there will come a time when the majority 60cm dishes won’t be able to handle HD transmitions and will fall over with an error code in the display area on the decoder. Here we strongly recommend the 70cm Visiosat HD dish or the 90cm Visiosat. The wind loads are significantly more on a 90cm especially in the Cape Province. We believe the 70cm Visiosat HD is a good choice because the wind load is low and it has a better bit error rate than most of the 90cm dishes available in South-Africa.

DSTV installations |
Before purchasing a DSTV decoder, customers must be aware of different decoders, their functions and the client’s need.
DSD1110 decoder is for entry level installations
Two DSD1110 decoders can be linked together to function as a dual view decoder. This method of installation is called Extra View by Multichoice and is meant for more than one viewer at a time with an additional R60+ Subscription fee p/m.
The HD PVR decoder has a HDMI output for high definition televisions and can be connected to another HD PVR decoder or a DSD1110 decoder in the extra view format. It also has a hard drive for recording purposes.

The head end of an installation is
where all the wires decoders, video machine and
DVD come together.
It is normally located in the Home Theatre room.
Try to locate the best area for the head end. Moving
a head end at a later stage is costly and time consuming
.
Head end can look like this: |
|
| Dual View + DVD + Home Theatre
(Wires = 2 x Dish, Antenna, Distributing, 5 x Speakers) |
|
Power Chords are laid
200mm away from RF cable to avoid magnetic induction
Magnetic fields can causes interference on TV picture
The Box method in 2nd and 3rd picture is time consuming
and costs R300 excl. extra. |
 |
People sometimes
ask, what is the difference between a Mr Dish
installation and the guy next door.
- Our installations are technically correct
and obey the laws of physics and science.
- We spend a lot of time laying our wires
away from power cords.
- Our cables are laid in the roof in
such a way that no one can stand on it,
preventing it from getting kinks that
causes reflection signal in the cable
which lead to poor reception over a period
of time.
- We use genuine copper cable and not
copper clad which disintegrate with DC
over a period of time (+ - 14 months)
- We refuse to install parts that have
caused us trouble in the past. We give
a 1 year guarantee on installation and
cant afford comebacks due to sub-standard
parts
